After purchasing a lake home in Michigan a little over four years ago, Melissa Tyler (of Lake & Lumber) and her family are working on completing first floor renovations to enjoy the summer lake season. With two children and a dog that loves to swim, having a waterproof floor was a high priority.
“The home was an estate sale and the first floor had old carpeting that was causing us to have a lot of allergy issues. We had been looking for the perfect waterproof flooring, but I wanted to ensure we didn’t sacrifice style when making this selection,” Melissa said.
“I had found that often you could have a waterproof OR realistic wood look luxury vinyl plank. I had really struggled finding floors that checked all of the boxes.”
After a friend had Karndean floors installed in her children’s playroom, Melissa was impressed with the look of the floors. She set out to explore Karndean color options, and upon first glance at Washed Butternut RKP8108, part of the Korlok Select product range, she knew it was the one.
Originally, Melissa was planning to put the floors in the lower level of the lake house, which includes a walkout basement but felt the Washed Butternut was an even better fit for the main level of the home.
“We wanted a light and bright, coastal feel and these Washed Butternut floors are so perfect! They look great with both grays and browns, and they are the perfect neutral to last for years and years! I didn’t want to feel caged in with design because my floors leaned one direction or the other (warm or cool). This gives me the freedom to make changes in decor throughout each room.”
Now that the installation is complete, how does Melissa feel about the color and design? “We are in love! I told my husband the other night when I was laying in the completed master bedroom, that it just feels more like home now! Before it was a place where we slept when we came to the lake...now it is OUR master. It reflects OUR style and it is so beautiful.”
Beautiful, sure; but does the new floor meet Melissa’s practical needs as well? “We needed something that was both kid and pet friendly and these floors are it. With wet kids and dogs going in and out constantly, as well as dog nails scraping along the floor, we are so happy to have the waterproof wear layer.”
With the main level completed, Melissa has added a long-term goal to her project list: carrying Washed Butternut through the lower level, too.
